Speech-to-text software for testing  Contact SDS for guidance
Use of a non-scientific calculator for testing The student may be asked to show their calculator on camera to ensure they are using an appropriate model.
Use of screen magnification for testing The student may use ZoomText during the exam. If you are utilizing a Lockdown Browser for your exams, please contact SDS for more guidance.

Use a text-to-speech reading software such as Kurzweil for testing Kurzweil and Read & Write Gold are not currently compatible with Respondus lockdown browser. Provide a Word copy of the exam to SDS testing staff at least 2 business days in advance, so an audio version can be created for you to provide to the student. Provide the exam to the student orally via Zoom, allowing breaks if needed.
The student requires accessible media, such as captioned videos. Contact SDS at altmedia@utk.edu for assistance with your course components. Recorded videos posted to the class must be captioned in advance.
Limited Adjustment to Attendance Policy This accommodation will be administered in much the same way for live synchronous class meetings as for in-person. Please contact SDS if any questions arise about utilizing this accommodation for asynchronous course components.
Permission to take breaks when symptoms occur. For synchronous courses, please allow the student to turn off their camera and step away from the class if needed.
Interpreting Ensure video feed of Sign Language Interpreter is permanently spotlighted for recorded lectures. If lectures are not recorded, the Interpreter will work with the student to adjust the viewing window in Zoom. Faculty with a sign language interpreter in their course should have received communication from SDS. Contact Heather Webb for more guidance.
Transcribing Provide Transcribing staff with link to the Zoom meeting. Process for providing access to the student will proceed as currently established. Faculty with a transcriber their course should have received communication from SDS. Contact Heather Webb for more guidance.
Note Taker Typically, Note Takers are only hired for online courses if there are live lectures that are not recorded for later review.  However, SDS is electing not to make any changes in Note Taker assignments and responsibilities this semester.  Note takers will continue to take notes on any lectures that are given by the instructors, recorded or not, in currently assigned courses and upload the notes in the Portal as usual. Asynchronous courses with no recordings may not warrant a note taker.
Pause Time during quizzes and exams Since it is not possible to pause the clock on timed, online exams, additional time for breaks must be included in order to accommodate the potential need to address symptoms while testing.  As such, instructors will be adding an additional 25% more testing time for students who have the pause time accommodation.  The 25% will be calculated on the base testing time and will be added even if the student also has extended testing time.
