James Harrison III, Sign Language Interpreter in Student Disability Services passed away Monday, October 7. James is remembered fondly as a friend, a colleague, and a champion of accessibility and equality. “He had the keen ability to make each person feel important and consistently sought ways to improve the conditions of the most vulnerable members of our community”, said David Ndiaye, Director of Student Disability Services. He was a lifelong learner and well-versed interpreter who provided access to individuals with disabilities and had a passion for educating children and young adults through performing arts.
A celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m., Sunday, October 20 at Suttree Landing Park, 1001 Waterfront Dr., Knoxville, TN 37920. To celebrate his spirit of social justice and giving, Student Disability Services is collecting nonperishable food items to be donated to members of the community who are in need. Donations may be dropped off at 100 Dunford Hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday, October 25, 2019.
