Note Taking Services

Unlike previous semesters, all note taking requests must be confirmed no later than a week after the start of classes. Requests that are not confirmed will automatically be canceled by the system. A reminder email will be sent to the student’s UTK email account prior to cancellation.

Testing Services

All final exams must be scheduled at least four weeks in advance of the beginning of finals. All exam requests are submitted through the Student Portal, even if late. Portal. The Late Exam Request form will no longer be available.

Text Messaging Feature

Students may sign up for text messaging reminders for exams and appointments via the Student Portal.

E-form Agreements

Students will be prompted to sign all agreements electronically in the Student Portal. Some agreements will need to be reviewed and signed each semester. A copy of the signed agreement will be emailed to the student’s UTK email account.

Alternative Format & Accessible Media

Requests for books and files in alternative format, as well requests for accessible media are now submitted via the Student Portal under Alternative Format and Communication Access respectively. The corresponding forms on the SDS website will be discontinued.

The Testing Center Hours

The Testing Center Hours have been updated to reflect a set closing time of 9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 5:00 p.m. on Fridays.  If you have any tests that would end after these closing times, talk with your instructors in advance to determine a new start time that will allow you to finish your test by the posted closing times.  Typically, you may start such tests a bit earlier but, if this conflicts with another class, you may request to take the test the following day.  Do not forget to allow for ‘extended time’ or ‘pause time when symptoms occur’ accommodations if these apply to you.

Time Warnings

Historically, SDS has provided time warnings to students at 30 minutes and 5 minutes prior to the end time of the test.  Beginning this semester, we will aim to provide each student with one warning at 10 minutes prior to the ending time.  This is offered as a courtesy, but may not be given when the proctor is completing other critical tasks.  Students are responsible for being aware of and budgeting their own time accordingly.  A clock is provided at every testing space to assist.

Deadline to Scheduled Final Exams

The deadline to schedule final exams is now three weeks before Study day, a week earlier than in previous terms.  This will allow sufficient time for SDS to procure space and provide a reserved seat for each exam scheduled by the deadline.
