Faculty Advisory Board

The SDS Faculty Advisory Board plays a pivotal role in enhancing the academic experience for students with disabilities. Established in fall 2019, the board’s purpose is multifaceted, focusing on advising, supporting, and fostering an inclusive environment within the academic community.

Responsibilities

  1. Counsel and advise SDS on effective strategies to support faculty in providing accommodations to students with disabilities.
  2. Facilitate communication between SDS and various academic units within the college.
  3. Enhance awareness and understanding of disability-related services among faculty and staff.
  4. Serve as a point of contact and a resource to other faculty members.
  5. Promote the creation of an inclusive environment free of barriers and bias.

Terms of Membership

  • Term: Members are expected to serve for two (2) academic years.
  • Extension Option: Members may opt for an additional third year based on mutual agreement.
  • Commitment: Members are expected to actively participate in meetings.
  • Experience: Members must have experience providing student instruction and implementing approved accommodations for students with disabilities.

Meeting Schedule

  • Frequency: Meetings are held twice a semester (Fall & Spring)
  • Duration: Meetings are generally for an hour. An occasional meeting for 90 minutes may be scheduled during the academic year.
  • Modality: Meetings are held virtually except for the one in-person meeting during the academic year.
